S-e-l-e-k-a

This is my name story as written by my dear mother.
♫ Happy birthday to me! ♪

"When I was about six months pregnant with my first baby, I was awakened by a very powerful dream. I was playing with a beautiful little girl. She had white-blonde hair and blue eyes, and she was wearing a flowered dress. I woke up knowing that she was my daughter and that her name was Seleka and that her name was spelled S-e-l-e-k-a because she was selected by God for something special. Months later, after her entrance into this world, my then-husband & I called his aunt in Utah to share the good news. When we told her our baby's name, she asked how we spelled it. Then she told us that it is a Native American name that means "Peace on Earth."

She was a peaceful, happy, loving baby. Even as an infant, she had a way of looking into you rather than at you, and I have always called her my "Special Friend" because of that sense of connection with her. What is the "something special" for which she was selected? Maybe it isn't just one thing. She is my Firstborn, and we share many traits and a deep bond. That's something special to me.

Beyond that, I see how absolutely AMAZING she is! She is very intelligent and the single most loving, caring, empathic, honest, sympathetic and giving person I know. That's certainly something special.

Life has brought her many heartaches, and she has worked through each of them to a place of peace and joy. That's something special.

As a mother, sometimes I have thought that her selection might be for a place of fame or worldly honor, perhaps in terms of her career path. There were times when I worried about her, prayed for her, and wondered how she would become whatever it was for which God had selected her.

grew up (as did she!), and I learned that her selection may have had nothing to do with fame or worldly recognition. Maybe it has to do with her tremendous capacity for love and the ability and desire she has to share it with others. Through that, she has become a healer. She touches every person she meets with light and love and acceptance. Now that's something special!

As she approaches her birthday this year, I so wish I could be with her! But this is what I can do instead. I can share with you how much I love and admire her! Maybe some of you can share what makes her "something special" in your life. Happy Birthday, Behrs Necessities, my Special Friend!

I forgot to mention that, a few years later, the dream proved to be a premonition when I found myself playing with my little girl and recognizing the dream in action....including the same flowered dress!"

I LOVE YOU, MOM!

The Lizard of the Fod

Once up on a time, there was a graceful and kind princess named Sharin Joy. Her name blessed her with the innate ability to share joy with unabashed enthusiasm. She sangs joyful songs and gave joyful hugs. When she smiled, her whole body exuded peace. When she breathed, the room filled with the smell of geraniums. Her giggles tickled the ears, resulting in immediate accompaniment from all who heard. Wherever she traveled, smiles multifariously grew.

Sharin Joy's favorite thing in the world was running. She skipped crawling as an infant; went directly from the belly-scoot to the RUN! This made her so tired. When her tiny body decided it had enough of the fast life, it would force the little princess to sleep the slumber of queens.
Before escaping to dreamland, she would request a bedtime story to help her active imagination focus on one plot, one familiar prose. The story she called, "The Lizard of the Fod."
aka: The Wizard of Oz
The girl and her dog traveling beyond dimensions to a world full of hope, friendship, wisdom, and compassion, would fill her mind and heart with wonder. She would fall asleep cuddling with her family members. Then the next day, ask for the same story again, "Lizard of the Fod, pwease?"

This adorable princess is my sister at three years old.
Today, I dissect what Lizard of the Fod means.

LIZARD
Through myth and legend Lizard is associated with the dreams and the power to regenerate that which is lost. Lizards are extremely good at facing fears and moving between realities and “otherworlds”. They have an innate ability to recognize danger and can remove themselves when the situation calls for it, or even leave a piece of themselves behind if necessary! Lizards know how to leave the past in the past. The intuitive characteristics found in the lizard encourages us to awaken our inner perceptions, helping us choose one path over another. Letting go of old ideas, patterns, belief systems, habits, actions or lifestyle decisions can be easier when we embody the lessons of the lizard. Listening to the prompts to go within and examine your present reality and move towards your dreams with confidence in your abilities to handle any threats that may come along.

of the

FOD
Foreign object debris (FOD) at airports includes any object found in an inappropriate location.

So for this birthday celebration, we had lots of Lizards
(friends with amazing qualities of lizards)
amongst the FOD
(all of our stuff that doesn't necessarily have a place it belongs).

2. any undesirable or troublesome plant, especially one that grows profusely where it is not wanted.
3. a thin, ungainly, wretched person or animal.

Many plants commonly considered as weeds are extremely resilient medicinal flora.
Many people commonly considered as weeds are extremely resilient healing lights.
We all have a place in this world.
Perhaps those plant weeds simply need to be managed and utilized as a part of the eco-system.
Perhaps those people weeds simply need to be managed and utilized as part of the socio-system.

Like little moths, humans tend to gravitate towards the light. We think the light is the best place to be, perhaps because we believe it is easier to see. We spend a lot of time searching for the light or the positivity we think is necessary to feel good. In order to feel peace-full we chase after joy, passion, optimism, and love. What we don't often understand is the peace possible within the darkest shadows of our minds. This peace comes through acceptance of everything that encompasses the current moment, resilience to continue forth through difficulty, and patience to act in alignment with our soul's timing. Practicing acceptance, resilience, and patience cultivates peace in all moments, including the darkest hours. With those tools, we can find our inner nyctophiliac.
